Damn! The only Tati film I still haven't seen!

It's the only one I haven't seen as well, but it is available, I think in France.

You can get it from Amazon France www.Amazon.fr but only on video and I don't think there are English subtitles. I get quite a bit of stuff from Amazon.fr. Quite handy because if you have a UK Amazon account, you can just log in with that, and all your address details etc are on there. The other good site I use for French CDs and DVDs is www.fnac.com - but you have to join that in French.

Ruby - you're a Tati fan as well?

BTW. Loved the photo of the Abbey entrance with snow. No snow on this side of London, yet.

I'm a fan of French films in general, especially anything with Jean Paul Belmondo - I recently watched "A bout de souffle" again - love it.

Another more recent film that made an impression on me is La Haine (Mathieu Kassovitz). His portrayal of life in those sprawling HLM developments is just sooo well evoked, with the choice of music, the shots and the actors, everything. (I lived and worked in Paris for a while).

As for Tati, I remember watching Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot years ago, and will probably watch it again soon. I do the Amazon DVD rental thing, purely to get French films, since I've seen all the ones in BSE's Choices international section now, LOL! I currently have Les Amants du Pont Neuf on the side ready to watch.

Glad you liked the Abbey pic - although I nearly froze in the Abbey Gardens this afternoon.

Is Choices still going? I thought Blockbuster would have moved in long ago. My friends and I used to rent them from Central Library, I'd watched all the 'art-house' ones by the time I'd left town.

Have you considered an online rental service like www.lovefilm.com? they deliver and have a huge selection. You should try and see 'Les Doulos' by Jean Pierre-Melville, it's on DVD and is one of Belmondo's good films.

I'll check out lovefilm.com, that's a new one on me. Choices is still going, and still has a door that springs open when anyone walks past - it must annoy the people who work there to death. I haven't seen Les Doulos, I'll put it on my Amazon list. Thanks for recommending it.
